Yet another newbie... from Sydney Australia

I think I just introduced myself to an automated welcome response so I'll try again

Evening All. My name is John and I am from Sydney Australia. Thank's for the warm welcome. It has got to the stage that retirement is looming so I felt this is a good time to start a new hobby that, with the inevitable downsizing, will require less space.  Previous passion is automotive restoration (MG's specifically), which although I am still passionate about, will have to take a back seat. ..I'll just keep restored ones.

I have decided to focus on Seiko (like many) as I love the older examples that I had as a teenager. I still have the 6138 - 8020 chronograph and the 4006 Bellmatic which will be the first to undergo work.  I will however practice on other later and cheaper examples that I can break without being too upset.  Retirement is still two years away so I have a bit of time to gather the right tools and commence setting up a spare room. I've just ordered a sit to stand corner desk which should help with the height required for working.

Additionally, I have purchased an Elma (Super Elite I think) watch cleaning machine (late 60's) following reading a wonderful thread on this site, that is ripe for a full restoration. It arrived here in Sydney today (all the way from South Australia). I get the feeling that the Aussie posties have kicked it from one side of the truck to the other as it arrived with one broken bottle/jar and a rather sad looking, but passable, speed regulator knob . Just wondering if anyone is parting out an old example as I would prefer to retain the look of the older materials glass and bakelite/plastic..Just let me know. If not I will have to buy new.

I look forward to immersing myself into this field and learning a lot just by reading your posts.

Kind regards and cheers, John
