Hey

I may just be having a bad day.

When i wind the watch it winds the mainspring barell through the crown wheel, ratchet wheel?

Then if i pull the winder out it sets the hands on the watch?

Should it also turn the mainspring barrel?

because this watch does.

The center wheel pinion has a cog under it that turns the mainspring barrel when it should be just setting the hands.surely?

sorry pics are not better. they are meant to show winder in and winder out.

I am sorry if i have missed something obvious.

If the wheel train is not fitted (including the pallets to stop the train from free-running) then the centre wheel and canon pinion will freely spin when in winding position. And when in setting position you will also cause the train to advance as there is nothing to stop it from freely running.
