ORIENT Calibre 46E40 Service Walkthrough

Recommended Posts

Ok, Not recommendations but I would be looking at the following to cover a range of readily available watch lubes using Moebius 9010 as base reference

Oil               Visc@20 degC    Base Oil type    Relevant Additives      Comment

Moebius 9010       150 Cst      PAO (synthetic)     Anti-wear             Reference; Similar Seiko AO-3

Moebius 941         104             Ester/Di-Ester        Lubricity               Similar visc to M9010, Lubrifar

Moebius 9030        60             PAO                        Anti-wear             Thinner than M9010; Seiko AO-2

Moebius 9000       100             PAO                        Anti-wear ?          Quartz oil

Moebius 8000         95             Mineral                  Lubricity               Poorer oxidation/life

Moebius 8030        115             Mineral                  Lubricity               Maybe too thick

I am sure there are many other candidates, not necessarily 'watch oils', but have kept ideas within the watch servicing brief and products we all use or can source at reasonable cost.  Just a comment, that the thinner (lower viscosity) the oil the less the ability to maintain a good oil barrier in the bearing,  thicker oils will increase viscous drag, so a balance must be found.   Happy testing !!!

Cst = centistokes - industry standard for measuring oils at given temperature.
