What type of crystal do I need? Ever-tite? Diver-tite?

Hard to say. You probably have to test which fits the best . You could test with a Sternkruez ATC or ATCT also. What diameter does it have.

Thanks for the reply. It's 29.95 inner diameter. I test fit a regular GS PHD and it fit (30.0mm) which fit on its own; however, with it's taper (cylinder walls of crystal are not vertical), the chapter ring would not fit. I own a Cordura Seagull that uses the chapter ring as a tension ring, but it's unclear what type of crystal that is, either.

I have a Sicura Satellite with the same chapter ring feature. I ended up gluing mine into the crystal shoulder where the tension ring originally went because the crystal I acquired was exactly the same size as the opening, it probably should have been a millimeter or so bigger. Does this watch have a separate crown that moves the chapter ring? If not then I believe the chapter ring is the tension ring.

Crown does not rotate chapter ring. Based on the dimensions and the fact that the chapter ring sits on top of the shoulder (not below directly on the dial), I too am convinced its a tension ring situation. However, still not exactly sure what crystal that relates to. I order a ever-tite and ill try to snap out the tension ring and insert the chapter ring. If not that, perhaps a diver-tite or some other specialty PA crystal? Thanks for the input.

Can have a check if i find a 30 mm crystal  with crystal ring  tomorrow . And the what the  inside diameter is. Also have some diver and evertite crystals . But not in 30 mm . But can see how high it is  So the chapter ring fits.

Had a Divertite . The crystal is very thick . Inside diameter without chromed ring is about 1,6 mm smaller then outside. This is 29,7 so inside is 28,1 mm  Then had some others that are about 1mm smaller inside. So a 30 mm is 29 mm . 1 mm high chromed ring. A divertite is about the same inside as a evertite. But has much thicker acrylic on top .

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you! I ordered a ET, but it sounds like the DT will work too (a look more rugged). Esslinger is closed, but casker is processing weekly... Thanks again!

Evertite crystal are very nice . Have used them on some Chronographs with same kind of chapter ring. They are hard to find  here in Europe. And think they are of better quality  then Sternkreuz

If you are in USA check tiptopcrystals out. They could be opened? https://www.tiptopcrystals.com/

A success! I got the evertite crystal in, and the chapter ring nest perfectly. Here it is at the end of the day, cleaned, serviced, and reassembled. Thanks for everyone's help!

Could benefit from a fun tropic strap or nato (but don't have one on hand). Ended up messing up one of the lumed markets when soldering a dial foot, so ended up rubbing all of them off for a balanced, clean look. Will re-lume in the future once I get my hands on a kit :)

    • Hello and welcome from Leeds.
    • Unfortunately I'm not that lucky. I started on the train side and after I noticed the binding I pulled everything out except the driving wheel to rule everything else out. It still binds. I'm going to double check that the pinion is fully seated on the staff first, then if no joy I'll push the bridge jewel up a fraction of a mm. Fingers crossed!
    • Happy to have helped, great way to start the day with a win! 🥳
    • Thank you for the advise!! It worked. The setting screw was a lock/unlock to remove the rotor.
    • I have that French tech sheet too, it is a little different than the English one (eg, it doesn't have the auto works diagram). BTW, it looks like you are looking up the case number in the 1979 ABC supplement. The 1974 ABC catalog does have the 3093 case. As you determined it takes the 1222-5 crystal.  When I serviced my President 'A' (which also takes that crystal), I was able to fit a 29.8 crystal from my DPA crystal assortment. Those are, in my opinion, a great deal. The assortment comes with 10 sizes each from 27.8mm to 32.4mm in 0.2 increments. I pretty much use them for any non-armored crystal that takes a high dome crystal. I think they no longer make them but Cousins has still has some in stock but when I bought them they were around $40 for the set and now they are around $100. Still, at 40 cents a crystal it's still a good deal. For the large driving wheel, I remember I once assembled the keyless/motion works first and when I placed the large driving wheel it was interfering with the setting wheel on the dial side as the teeth were not fully meshing and it wouldn't fully seat. If that isn't the issue I got nothing and am looking forward to see how you solve it 🙂
