Unidentified £0.99 Ladies watch

Recommended Posts

I picked up a £0.99 unsigned ladies watch from ebay last month. It had a beautiful marcasite bracelet.

It cleaned up very nicely in the ultrasound. It didn't have the usual grey sterling silver patina. Could it be white gold? The movement inside was an AS 1051. It looked like I found treasure.

But as luck would have it, the balance pivot was broken. I thought I would have to re-pivot the balance staff but I remembered that I bought a bagful of spoilt ladies watch movements last year. I dug through the lot and found 2 movements with balances that were similar to the AS 1051. A Bulova and a FHF.

I just couldn't believe it. The roller table and collet table all fitted without any modifications.

Were there such things as off-the-shelf parts that different manufacturers were using in the '50s?

Anyway, that really made my day. :D
