Timegrapher information

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I just serviced this Rodana. Amplitude seems good, however no matter what I do to the regulation arm the timegrapher keeps showing ++++s/d.

What is that due to?

It’s not a timegrapher issue, as it works perfectly with other watches.

Thanks for your help!

What is the movement?
Also does your TG auto detect the beat rate or have you set it manually? In which case have you selected the correct value?

My TG detects the beat automatically.
Here is a movement shot. It’s marked AS 1297
1294

Also, I don't know what you did to the balance and cock, but make certain the HS is between the regluator pins.  BTDT!

I have also seen a HS catch on the upper level of the balance cock, so give the HS a good look under magnification.

Good Luck.

It has picked up the correct beat rate then (always worth checking) but the +++++++ display means that the rate is fast by a large enough margin to be out of the display range.

As already suggested the H/S could well be touching somewhere that it shouldn't. You could also have coils sticking together either because they are magnetised or they a contaminated. These would be the first things that I would look at.

I’ll start checking out the HS. To be honest I had a hard time setting the balance jewel into the pallet fork due to where the balance is, so I may well be done something wrong on the HS. I’ll come back after checking that out!

In my experience Weishi machines detect beat rate accurately. If is says, as it happens here, 18,000 and way fast (more than 1,000 s/day) that it means the next auto rate of 19,800 (10% faster) is not applicable. Assume the algorithm threshold to decide rate is at midpoint, that is 4320 secs a day, or 72 minutes, that is not credible for a mov.t running slow.

I can say that even if the lines came to an almost straight pattern which usually comes with +-0 spd the reading stays at ++++ s/d.
The lines also get up and down continously, they’re not able to stay straight.
Hope I explained it well enough

That is typical of an hairspring rubbing.

And you were damn right!
The hairspring was rubbing between the pins.
These are the new readings! Have to say I’m happy. Just have to set the watch in beat now.
Thank you so much to all of you guys for your help :)

You're welcome! FYI on the left of all postings in this section one can feedback with the rating arrows, and the OP set check mark.

Is this available on tapatalk too? Can’t seem to find it

I recommend to use the browser on mobile devices. Forum software has excellent support for these, so that all features can be easily accessed. I've stopped using Tapatalk after realizing how limited, slow and awkward is.

    • So here is the new base (v 2.1), I made it so that the base will fit over and swallow the stump of the hand pusher tool (or at least my clone of the tool), I also reduced the OD of the bottom skirt a little as it looked/felt a little large, here are a few pictures and the fake .pdf file which you need to convert to .zip once downloaded.   The cut-out seen on the below image on the bottom of the base should swallow the OD (40 mm, +0.1 mm tolerance) of the stump and the height of the stump 9.5mm (measured to 9.1mm, but rounded to 9.5mm) - let me know if this works for your tool.   Note, I think you may need to print supports for the new internal shelf created? • Hi Frank, you have dived headlong into the deep end. Hairspring work has to be the scariest thing a newbie has to tackle. Your hairspring appears to be bent and just putting it back into the regulator would not allow the balance to work properly. It might start oscillating but the performance would not be good. The proper thing to do is to unstud the hairspring, remove the hairspring from the balance, reinstall the hairspring on the stud carrier, reshape the endcurve and centre the collet to the balance jewel hole. This challenge would either make you or break you. Hope that you will be able to fix your watch. Welcome to the world of watchmaking.  Watch this video. It think it'll give you an idea of the task ahead. From your 1st photo, I think you have a etachron type stud. Let me see if I can find a video on how to remove it from the arm.
    • Have read of the Tech Sheet attached on the balance section page 12. It may be bent but until you reposition it back in the regulator pins you'll never know. Cheers CJ 4R35B_4R36A.pdf
    • Aloha All, My Seiko 4R35B movement stopped working today. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the balance spring came out of the regulator pin. This is my first time working on a balance. Any advice on how to get this spring repositioned (back to normal)? I'm pretty sure that while adjusting the beat error on this movement, I must have turned the stud (I didn't even know they turned), and the spring eventually fell out.  Will the spring go back to even spacing when it's back in the pin, or does it look bent? Thanks, Frank
    • Good job, that band matches the watch perfectly.
