Dash Board Repair

Recommended Posts

Sometimes the bench gets a different type of repair request. In this case it is a GM dashboard that has failed. All of the stepper motors are to be replaced and I have to inspect and repair any cold joints. Notice the dark areas which certainly help pinpoint an area to inspect.

my repair is done and just dropped it off to the owner. It turns out those joints on the backside of the board were not the issue. rather it was bank of surface mounted resistor that had micros-fractures in the soldering.  Had to use a 20x loupe the see them but they were there.

The more you see modern technology the more you appreciate the work and design that went into vintage horology :)
