Wooden Teeth And Pinion Repair

Wooden tooth repair has been around for ages, it takes a lot of skill to dovetail it into the wheel. Even if done correctly it has a limited life due to the tooth wood grain is perpendicular to the parent wood. This will eventually crack the glue, loosen the tooth and eventually will fail.

I heard about a method using tinted epoxy, so I improved and made it easy for a beginner to make a almost invisible repair quickly using a molding method. The glue is secured onto side grain, so as the years go by there isn't contraction and expansion problems working against the glue joint.

The clay even molds in wood grain appearance to the epoxy.

If you mess up its easy to snap off the epoxy and start again without damage to the wheel.

I use

Poly Clay

Canola Oil

Burnt Umber Powder for color

Forgive the long 1/2 hour video, I normally teach beginners, so I explain to death what I'm doing so they can be successful

Enjoy
