I needed a tool for probing hair springs. I could not find one so I made one.

Here are the pics.

Materials:-

Handle - Brass 5mm hex

Probe wire - 0.3mm stainless steel from a wire brush.

Drilled a 0.4 mm hole and Haroldited the probe wire in the handle.

All anti magnetic.

No Problem JDM thank you for the heads up.

As you can probably tell I an still not site familiar. Probing an hair spring when it is slightly distorted particularly in the case of pocket watches. I needed something that was stiff enough but thin enough to manipulate the spring.

I see. That is normally called "correcting" or "manipulating". We have some topics where specific tools are discussed, there should be more.

Sorry, what is "probing an hair spring"?

BTW, there  a section for discussing tools. "chat about anything else" should about for whatever that is not about watches. Please forgive me for being pedantic.

"Chat About Anything Here

Talk about whatever you fancy within the forum rules, not just about watches."

I found it useful information, probe things all the time and seldom look at the tools section.

Anything here means that to me.   Not JUST about watches does not preclude watches and tools.

Perhaps there is a language barrier at work.
