Sauce Pans and Today's Watches

Recommended Posts

Initially, I fancied some of the large sauce pan watches that became trendy with Hip Hop. But having worn more than a few over the years, I now seldom wear anything over 40mm, preferring instead 34 to 36mm case sizes, because they are functional and tuck in nicely in under the sleeve . Most of all, you can work with a smaller watch, as opposed to the newer sauce pan size varieties, which inadvertently act as bump magnets and are uncomfortable when worn all day, especially if you are active.

What are your thoughts on the move away from smaller case sizes to BIG watches?

40mm maximum for me, with my skinny wrists that's pretty big.

38mm is perfect for me in a modern watch.

In vintage, my favorite is the Bulova "23" from the fifties. These guys were pretty small, 33-34 mm usually, but at the time smallness was an indicator of "high tech" and elegance.

It's nice wearing a watch that doesn't clang around on the wrist. Maybe I should move to pocket watches :-)
