Looking for a camera

I am looking for a camera with a macro function to photograph my work.  I had a 18 or 20 megapixel Sony point and shoot that worked great for super close pics, but lost it in a fire.  Dont remember the model but it was a pocket sized camera I could zoom and focus on pallet stones with excellent definition.   It was less than $200 US.   Now I can’t find a camera that will do the job for less than $500  Any suggestions?

Why don't you message Mark. I think he is the expert on this. His videos and photos are all excellent.

Mark uses Panasonic micro four thirds  (as I do, but Olympus), and then switched to Canon full frame I think.

My personal finding is that stands and lighting are far more important than camera and lenses. For the latest and better I suggest  you browse dpreview.com

Not a problem my friend, saves you a few quid until you really need a camera.

Ive got a Chinese microscope, Cost under £40 and you can add an sd card to it so you can take pictures and save them. There is a post about somewhere on here.

I use a Nikon L320 that are not over priced, can record on it too. Has a Macro Function and takes nice closeups. I bought a overhead stand, which was about £30-40, as use it for taking pictures of old documents, for local/family history.

I agree with this, a good lighting makes wounders.
Usually when I post here I take a quick picture with my phone and the 21Mp is quite fair and the files are small enough to upload.
But a camera, correct lighting and a macro is what it takes to do some good movement por*.
This pictures is just a part of a picture since I can't upload the complete one (Camera is a Sony A7R II 42,4 Mp so the files  becomes large) but one gets what the difference in ligting do compared to my phone ones, this is just a part of the picture, it is just over 800k large! (or small).....

Well I was actually about to compare two cameras just to show how much improvement one can get with a good lighting but for some reason I just can't find the second camera a much cheaper SONY A37Y with macro lens too but for a fraction of the price. 
Guess I will not do that after all

There is a lens addon that allows a normal lens to be used as a macro lens, you just need to know what is the thread size of the outer ring. This would probably not work on point and shoot cameras though. Its pretty cheap too, I think I paid around $25 for the one I have but I dont remember where I got it from.

I just came across a review for the Canon Powershot SX610HS and it says the camera can focus down to 5cm from the lens. Thought I would post the link here.
