Hello, thank you for letting me join your forum.

I am new to the world wrist watches but have a few pocket watches, that I have collected over the years, a couple of gents walthams, a ladies waltham and a fattorini invincible.

I have just obtained a Smith Astral 17 jewel, made in england. It winds up nicely and runs fine. there is a Guarantee with the watch dated 8 december 1964, bought in Belfast Co-operative Society. The dial has a linen type finish.

just wondering if someone could give me any information on my Smith please.

many thanks

harrness

Thank you for your introduction and welcome to this friendly forum.

It is probably this type of movement. They are very nice simple movements to work on.

thank you. Is the dial meant to have a linen type surface?

I have a  Smiths watch with a linen type dial, an interesting texture found on some vintage watches. I don’t believe linen dials actually contain cloth but are made with a pattern of vertical and horizontal marks that look similar to linen material. They are unusual, interesting and quite beautiful though.
