Matching seconds hand

Recommended Posts

Any thoughts on what might look the best colour for this seconds hand so it’s in keeping with the rest of the watch. I can’t leave it as is, it’s too shiny. It seems like some watches from this period often had red seconds hands. Would I cover the lume, it’s too clean anyway? Or, I could relume all the hands  with a vintage lume colour and make the seconds hand black. I’ve been looking at it all day and can’t make up my mind.

In my mind the first thing you should think about is the lenght of the second hand. Never let it go outside the second markers.
When it comes to color red probably in my mind  looks slightly better with a  50's and forvard hand set.
To that one you should go with a bluend or black sweep second hand. Goes better with the classic hour and minute hands.
But this is just my thoughts... lol

I could not find a blue/black hand, I would have much preferred that. The minute hand might look odd because I repaired the ends that had separated and lost the original lume. I couldn’t get it the same colour as the hour hand. I am thinking I might relume them all the same colour, paint the second hand black and maybe snip off the tip of the second hand. Unless any one can suggest where I might find a blue/black one.

Many thanks for the suggestions.

I would go with bled or black sweep hand, and just as @HSL said, check that hand length! That is crucial. The watch looks good even with the nearly equally-sized hour and minute hands. If you want to  relume, I would suggest going with a darker beige-yellow patina for overall aesthetics.Don't snip the tip off of the seconds hand...it will look weird. Try getting another one, but for that I need the pipe measurements. Did you say it is .22mm?

Well, that seconds hand now looks like as you see it in my post about it’s erratic tick behaviour-_-  I did snip off the tip of the point and also the extended part from the opposite end. I painted it black and relumed all of the hands so they at least matched. I thought it looked ok but would have preferred a plain slim blue black one. I’m sure the pivot measured .21. I could always take it out again and check.
