Anybody fancy plank for dinner?

Recommended Posts

It can be fixed using the original holding arms. As a prototype it’s very much a work in progress. If my mate approves the concept then we will work on the fixes. The work will be improved (not my Heath Robinson approach:) ) and my choice would be to have a number of colour options available using different veneers and leathers

I thought this was a one off, if you are doing it as a selling item maybe try a few of these things.

To get the curve, use 3mm ply cut 3 pieces to size, make a jig, a bit like a bricky uses to get a curve on an arch opening, however have a male and female, glue with PVA the 3 pieces together and clamp it, when dry they will hold the shape.

To tidy up the top, take the front  level with the curve and hinge with a piano hinge and use a magnetic clip at the bottom , that way you have a door to access the movement. This will let you add a bottom to the case, a few strechers across the top and it will be strong.

I am not saying the way you did it is wrong, just trying to help in the ongoing project.

Thanks Jimmy, I do appreciate the advice. The way I’ve done it wouldn’t be the best way and needs improvement. I’ve done this one purely as a prototype to show the design to see if my mate would like it. He has a stock of twenty or so movements and wants a unique design to put them in. This was my idea for him and also a little project to house the little French movement. If he goes for it then we would work on the design to get it right fixing the problems and sorting out the best manufacture process. I’m pleased with the look and blend of materials and personally think it is quite smart, modern looking with a nod to the old.
