Tissot Back cover difficulty

Recommended Posts

I am replacing the battery on a Tissot watch.  The back cover snapped open easily enough, but I am having a difficult time putting it back on.  It has a red o-ring that is hard, instead of soft and rubbery.  I believe it acts as some sort of wedge when putting the back cover on?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated, I have attached pictures below.  I believe I may need to replace the red o-ring?

Yes a case back press is required to pop these back on mate!

YOu'll need to press it back in using a crystal press. If you try anything else you may damage the case and possible crack the crystal.

I have two different presses, and having difficulty with both.  I can press the back down all the way, but it does not stay.  If I put the back on without the red hard o-ring, it fits all the way down, and is loose.  That is why I thought the red hard o-ring acts as a wedge?  I believe the red hard o-ring is disfigured, so I am looking for a new one online.  Just hoping someone could confirm this is how these backs attach?

Make sure the movement ring is seated correctly and the do the same with the red o ring.

Ensure the back is sitting evenly and press down firmly you will hear a click when the back goes on correctly.

Personally, I prefer the screw down type press as they give more control.

The red --ring is twisted in one place and slightly splintered in another:

Pay special attention to this area and make sure it is completely seated within the grove before pressing down gently, but firmly with the press.

Hi All the information you have  recieved is practical and good , If the O ring is damaged then replace it but remember to grease the new ring with silicone, Just warm the grease in the fingers and draw the ring through so a to leave a fine coating, re fit the ring and use a press as stated

Is there a website I can order a replacement from in the USA?  I can find them overseas but cant find any locally.  The outside measurement from end to end is 33.25mm, inside measurement is 32.05mm, and thickness of red ring is 1.72mm.

J borel and Esslinger have red gaskets, but not exact size...Both are 4.50 but you need an account for J Borel ordering.. Esslinger lets you order without account. You'll have to try them and see:

Hi ! Does the red ring go on the case back or does it need to be put in the watch case first, i got the same problem! The case back doesn’t snap back on!!!!

Normally it goes in the case but should fit either way, what matters is that the press is good, you start perfectly straight and you use a crown die, otherwise the back may distort and jam.

Thanks for the reply mate! I’ve managed to get the case back on now thanks! I put the red gasket ring onto the case & pushed it back onto the watch case making sure it was absolutely level just with my fingers, which i thought was a bit strange to say the least! There was no snap! I think it’s just friction fit, i though it would have been a lot harder with it being a good tissot 1853
