Hi to you all....i am getting married in September and i have decide to buy a watch that will fit my suit :)...i have found a few over size watches and i just fell in love whit them. I am 1.96 m tall and small watches just dont fit my hand wrist.At this moment i have Invicta Corduba  model.3449 and trust me its like a wrist clock not wrist watch. I have using that watch evry day and now i just cant imagine my self whit small watch on my wrist.

 Those watches i mention above...i have realise that they are pocket watch conversions made in Ukraine. 1000 for and 1000 against....i am 1001 for :)...but also i have realise that they place price to much for old pocket watches whit some not original dials and Parnis watch cases. Sooooooooooooooooooo i have decide to make my own pocket watch conversion. I have found a nice Aero watch Neuchatel pocket watch whit beautifull dial, and it is moving whit UNITAS 6498 movment whic is in prestige condition. I know that UNITAS 6498 doesnt have shock resistance (its not INCABLOCK version) but i will not not wear that watch evry day. It will be more like memory for me...

 

After all i wrrite here is my problem....i have order Parnis watch case 45 mm square case and i somebody tell me that this case will not fit because its made for 0.8 mm dials and my dial is 0.4 mm. 

Is that possible??? My dial diameter is 36,5 and its said on advertise that this case will fit any 6497 6498 st 36 movment and 35-37 mm dial. They didnt mention dial thicknes. And some other guy told me that most important thing is that i have to make shim 0.4 to insert beatween dial and movment so it will fit this case...is taht possible? will i have that problem or what?Pls help...

Hello

It sounds like a cool little project you got going on here.
I'm not very familiar with these Parnis cases but the theory is the same for the most.
The pocket watch movements are mostly put into place by opening the front lid and dropped into place, this means it doesn't matter which thickness you got on the dial since the distance to the winding stem center and the tube in the case will be adjusted by the backside of the dial.
But on wristwatches the movement is most likely placed from the bottom and against an edge inside the case, now the position of the center of the stem is decided by the fromt of the dial. If the dial is supposed to be 0.8 mm thick but instead is 0.4 mm the center of the stem will be 0.8 - 0.4 = 0.4 mm off towards the center of the tube in the case.
If this offset matters or not is depending of the clearance in the tube. One  always should strive for perfection so the easy fix is to put a shim under the dial.If you can't find a factory made shim you can always buy a sparkplugg gap measuring tool from the local gasstation for 1$ or two and use the 0.4 mm blade for your shims.

You are built on Slavic battle Chassis. No small watches for you.You could use something soft and easy to work and less likely to corrode ,brass or plastic.Stainless (inox as you call it) is hard to cut and has nasty sharp edges. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

Still i didnt place movement holders into case. Waiting them to arrive from Malasiya. But so far this is how it look like. I have trim the winding steam..hand made leather strap 28 mm on watch and 26 mm on buckle. Yes it is and it doesnt fit case that i bought...on advertise it said that will fit 40-41.5 mm dial. My dial is 40 mm and it drop down the case. I have bought this dial from e bay down on the picture but now i have dilema will this dial fit my movement.my movement is 6498-1 and this dial is 6498. Are they compactibile? My best answer is probably. Your movement is a 6498-1. This means it has some revision over the standard 6498. I do not know what the revision is.  Probably it is nothing major such as changing the dial feet position.

      Been there. Worn that Tshirt.  'ping'. Hands and knees. Nothing. Nada. 20 minutes? Ha! I found it 7 month later. How? Well, after advice from a member, I invested in a £4 UV light torch.  Hands and knees looking for a 'ping' from a Sekonda, found them both within 30 seconds. UV makes the jewel shine. easy peasy. Could have taken longer. Just lucky on the location of the search. Hope this helps.

      Thanks Dell. I thought about silver soldering. Have never done it but would like to give it a go. Do you think to put flux on the butted joint then run the solder in or to maybe brace it with a piece of scrap spring steel?

      Never and others. Yes, like you I do spend a fair amount of time reading the contents of this forum. I find it better that any other. I did run a forum for a few years. Really enjoyed it, but became so engrossed that it did affect my health. I gave to to others to run. Not been back. I did ask and listen to members comments and it worked well.    Costs Having a domain name, £10 annually.  Register the site with a forum company, free. Build the site using the forum company guide lines, free. It looked and ran almost the same a Mark's. All the same facilities. The cost was only £5 per month, but counted visits (views). If I recall, it was that price for 5,000 views. Each extra 5,000 views increased the price by £2 per month. Success was my own personal undoing. From £5 per month initially, it rose to £60 a month and looked like increasing. This was 10 years ago. I could not afford that, and asked it anyone would like to take over and someone did. I would assume that this is the price that Mark is funding for us all. His return is our continued comments on the internet about his course, and the fact that many of the big names on YouTube mention him as their Tutor. Those of us who have done, and are still using, his course, benefit. In comparison to other courses, I can't believe how cheap it is, and the value is exceptional. It is the structure that gives the value. Long may Mark reign. Ross

      Hi all, total newbie to watchmaking and I've had a bit of a mishap. Just completing level 2 and was doing ok, but I was just on the last part of the reassembly of my ST3620 when the balance end stone shot across the room, just as I was trying to see if I had put the correct amount of oil between it and the balance end, aarrrgh! Been on my hands and knees combing the carpet for 20mins looking for it but to no avail. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement from and what to look for please?? Thanks.
