Changing a mega old gasket and removing bezel

Recommended Posts

Hi

Need your suggestion please, this case gasket might be 60 years, and has become, if effect, part of it. It is even difficult to remove by scratching with tweezers. Any suggestions please?

Also, on the same watch (vintage oris), is there any specific trick to remove such a bezel?

Thank you!

Heat up any sharp point metal resembling screwdriver., it comes out in pieces ,clean physically to remove the rsidue and soak in solvent to chemically dissolve, remove and brush  clean the groove, No chemical or heat on the bezel.

It's probably a paperclip-ring bezel so first thing you should check is if you have a 1 part or 2 parts assembly.
By 2 parts I mean Bezel + Insert ... but should be a 1 part.

If it's a 1 part you just have to push a 1 razor blade under it, taking care not to scratch the case, then push a 2nd one opposite to the 1st one.
Then you should be able to put a thin screwdriver under the bezel and make lever ... the bezel should pop off.

If it's a 2 parts just remove the insert, taking care not to bend it, then you will see the paperclip-ring that maintain the bezel on the case.
Just grip the spring with tweezers and pull it off.

Which solvent would you recommend ?

Sorry for late response, submerge in deisel fuel let soak overnight.

Following bezel removal, moderate flame by a cigartte lighter or torch, right aiming at the gasket to ruin its structure so the gasket can  be scraped off.

If memory serves me right the case material is base metal, so don,t forget and leave it soaking for weeks.
