Just getting into clocks as a hobby, have a few, mostly working ones, that I leave alone, but have a couple that I might need help with.

I'm in Fleet Hampshire, and have a background in mechanical engineering, greasy hand end, rather than office based.

Hi Bod and welcome. New to the clock stuff as well but joining here recently was a good move. Have a look in clock corner for all things clock related and post up what you have. There are some seriously knowledgable people who will happily help and then there are people like myself who will happily encourage and offer tales of mistakes and successes.
