Interchangeable ETA parts

I’ve got some spare parts lying round and the plan was to use them for a custom project watch.

I’ve used the following parts

ETA 2840 gear train, barrel, motion works, pallets and balance.

Clone 2824 keyless

ETA 2824 main plate

I’ve assembled everything up to the pallets and it all works nicely however, I can’t for the life of me to get the pallet fork to work with the 2840 escape wheel. I was under the impression the 2840 was just a cheaper version of the 2824 used in swatch watches with no calendar works or hooks for the dial feet.

Should these parts be interchangeable and this is worth persevering with or have I hit a dead end?

2824 is a 28800 hertz movement and the 2840 is only 21600 hz so they wont work together. I don't know if you using the 2824 pallet fork or 2840 pallet fork? Maybe the mainplate has a different distance between the escape wheel and pallet fork?

I’ve seen people use 3 hz 2840 parts with a clone 2824 main plate before with no problems. I’m using the 2840 pallets and balance.

There is some difference between the 2824 and the 2824-1,2.  Have you checked the pallet fork. Maybe the stones has moved?

Are you using the 2840 escape wheel to?

Sorry I should’ve just said 2824-1 from the beginning I have just added confusion by saying 2824.

I’m using a 2824-1 mainplate.

I believe the only difference from 2824-1 to the 2824-2 is the keyless works.

I have tried 2 2840 pallet forks, so it’s either me or it’s not meant to be. I am using the 2840 escape wheel.

I might pick up a 2824-2 mainplate on eBay they’re only €10 and give it one last try.
