This just in..a Tissot Seastar from the 70s. Just love the 70s bracelet!

Ebay listing and pictures from the listing. First look it pretty grotty..The bezel ring looks tarnished. Not cheap at USD54 but these watches with an original bracelet are getting harder to find.

One good sign is that it ticks (or so he says!).. that usually means the balance is OK.

Crown seems original and the bracelet looks long enough to fit me!

The caseback has engraving..

Lets take a closer look.. note the spring bars, these are orginal to the watch, the lug on the right looks to have been forced at some point.

A closer look at the bezel ring, Tissot were a good brand and they usually used good quality metals, its probably stainless and hopefully its just wrist cheese which will clean up. The fact that the crud extends beyond the bezel is probably a good sign! (compare the crus at 7-8 o'çlock and at 12 and 6).

Very nice piece Anil! I think it states, and my Hebrew is rusty, “ In recognition of the 25 years of service in the IDF”

Keep posting I would like to see the movement and work you complete later!

It's more likely that there just is not a lot of postal traffic between the two countries. They probably waited until a container was filled in order to keep costs down. Congratulations on your purchase.

Think it's more than that yankeedog...  You have no idea how much Israel is hated in Muslim countries... I'm talking frothing at the mouth and death threats.  My passport is stamped valid for travel to all countries except Israel...  Isrealis are cool with it,  they let you in on a Malaysian passport,  they just stamp the immigration card and not the passport.

I believe the watch came via Singapore..

Anil,

If I’m not mistaken Tissot still provides time pieces for officers of the IDF today. I ran across a newer one for around $4,000. A chronograph as I recall, never worn.

    • Hi Vandan. Hi from a fellow newbie! Marshall has got a lot to answer for hasn't he! 😄. I also got hooked to this hobby after watching his videos.  Good luck with your journey to service your Grandfather's watch.   Nick
    • Hi all, I have a lovely Favre-Lueba dress watch from late 70s/early 80s in a stainless steel case.  Its an unusual curved rectangular case and crystal.  I'm wondering if there's any possibility I might be able to buy/find a replacement crystal for this watch.  The base of the crystal is also curved to match the case, rather than flat.  I'm looking at the Cousins website page here https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/rectsq-rounded-corners-one-side-curved-bezel-sternkreuz-rzr but not sure if I'm looking for the correct type.  In my case its a rectanglular crystal with rounded corners, and both the upper and lower surfaces of the crystal are curved.   Update - OK I now think I know what I'm looking for, but Cousins don't stock the size I need :-).  I think I need a Sternkruez RZ 315x220R9, acrylic, cylindrically domed with rounded corners.  Any tips or alternate sources for this source of crystal. Many thanks
    • Getting more interesting this post, innit? Mikeplilk, Waggy. Impressed with your efforts. Makes mine look amateurish. Hey, that's what I am. Still, I have good results with the 'frog'. Apprentice test piece. Paper is from https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234602659940?var=534248554534   I am aware that the more I delve into the DIY, the more I am gaining understanding of watchmaking. Well, a little each time. Ross
