  1. My name is Tyrus, however I also go Ti! I am happy and very excited to be part of this community and I appreciate the opportunity to join! For a little context -- I've been a Software Engineer for ~4 years and I recently started taking this hobby more seriously and I thoroughly enjoy it. I've always had a fascination with horology, especially watchmaking -- it's absolutely amazing, therapeutic even. Onwards and Upwards Best, Tyrus Malmstrom.
  2. Hello everyone. Caught the Watch repair bug. Thought let me try. Trying to learn the basics from scratch. I'm originally from India (Coimbatore) temporarily based in Portland, Oregon
  3. Hello and thanks for adding me to the forum. I live in Pennsylvania and am semi retired. I have been restoring watches for about 1 1/2 years. I got my education on the internet, and have enjoyed a great deal of success. I like Seiko and have restored quite a few including a 6139 chrono. Also like Hamilton, Bulova and Elgin.
  4. Hello everyone, My name is Norm and I live in the East Valley of Phoenix Arizona. I have retired twice, once from law enforcement after 20+ years and recently from adult probation. I am 66 and have always enjoyed working with my hands. I have been repairing clocks as a hobby for almost 30 years as spare time permitted. I have tried to learn about watchmaking and wanted to attend a watchmaking school once I retired. I have a family and can not afford to be away for two years to attend school in PA, OK or WA. I recently heard even some of these schools have closed? I have been a subscriber of Mark's YouTube channel for some time and recently started his online watch repair course. I have a modest library of watch and clock making books and reference material. I am a member of NAWCC and AWCI and have accumulated a few tools and movements over the years that I am looking forward to learning about. I mostly lurk and read the comments in forums, feeling that I do not know enough to add my two cents in. I wish you all well and hope you have a blessed Holiday Season and a tremendous New Year! All the best, Norm
  5. Hi WRT community! Full-time graduate student and aspiring amateur watch-tinker-er here. My first watch was a quartz victorinox gifted from my grandma when I was 12 years old and thus began a (so-far) life-long appreciation for watches of all kinds. I have only recently started tinkering with watches myself - trying to repair some old Seiko movements from ebay - and came across this forum a few months ago. I am currently amidst my first foray into building a watch using various parts from ebay, and was hoping I could mine the wealth of wisdom here for some advice before I pull the trigger on a watch case. My question is this: I have a 33.5 mm watch dial, and the case I am interested in fits a 33 mm dial normally. Given the 0.5mm discrepency between the case and dial, would I still be able to fit my dial into the case? Or is it better to find a case made for a 33.5 mm dial? Looking forward to learning more from you all, and growing this hobby! Best, Dave
