  1. Hello guys, I'm trying to identify a movement for my friend from an unknown brand of the following pocket watch the movement have the balance broken and me and my friend would love to bring that old guy back to life because this watch belonged to his grand dad and he would love to keep some memories for him here is the movement we would like to identify If you could please help in any way with the identity of this movement, it would be very nice and you would contribute to the repair of one of the many exceptional watches that have a really rich history and it would be a shame to let them gather dust. If by some miracle you could also advise us where to buy a balance or donor movement if the parts for it are no longer available anywhere, that would be lovely bonus for my friend Thanks in advance for reading and sharing your valuable experience and/or advices
  2. Looking for some help, my friend had an issue with his watch having water enter the movement. It has stopped working and I fear the movement could be fried. Just in case this worst case scenario plays out I was looking at new movements. The movement is an ETA (Tag) 955.112. I looked on CousinsUK and they say it is a discontinued movement. They only have the version without the seconds hand for sale. Does anyone know the correct movement to replace the ETA 955.112 with? I did see one site state that the ETA F06.111 was the replacement, but I'm not sure I trust the source enough to order one without checking here first. Also it looks like the crystal gasket may be to blame, can anyone point me in the right direction for a replacement? It is a Tag Kirium, but the part numbers have been worn off that case back. I guess this would also imply that the 955.114 could also replace the 955.112??
  3. Hi all, Can you help me identify this movement? I think I know what it is (cheap chinese) but just wanted to pitch for confirmation... (so won't say what I think it is) I have measured it as: (I think...) Diameter 26.0mm Height 4.9mm Height with hand pinion 7.3mm I am a complete newbie at even taken a case back off despite being a bit of a collector. This movement is broken and crunches when I wind it. So I want to replace it. The watch itself was a gift (and undoubtedly a fake/replica) but I want to get it working again by replacing the movement. Ideally, I want to keep the current hands (hr, min, sec) and crown/stem. It just has a date complication at 3 o'clock. Just a like for like swap seems the simplest thing to do? But open to any suggestions. I'm not bothered if it's a cheap chinese movement, I just want to get it working so I can wear it now and again. Any advice or help would be most appreciated. Many Thanks, Dan.
  4. Hello all, I required a movement to fit in a very small space and opted for the Hattori VX01. I am embarrassed to admit that I unsure how to keep the battery (379) in place. The metal arms either side don't look to me as if they are supposed to be levered up onto the battery, especially as one has the end angled down towards the movement. If anyone has worked with the VX01 or a similar movement I would very much appreciate the benefit of your knowledge.
  5. Hi peoole, any idea what this movement is ? Suffers a broken centre pinion I would like to source. Thanks in advance.
  6. I have a beautiful Wittnauer 11arg movement that I bought off a jewler for 10 dollars. I figured that I could easily find a suitable case to fit the movement. To this date I have been unable to find a home for this movement. A year ago I ordered a case off of ebay that matched with my movement. When the package arrived at my house it was empty. The Wittnauer 11arg movement is based off an as 1361. Does anybody know where I can find obscure parts/ know where I can get a suitable case?
  7. Hello all. I recently purchased what I though was a Seiko 5 project watch. The case back says the movement is a Seiko 6309- 7200 movement. However when I removed the works (and disassembled) it was not a 6309, at least I don't think it is. FE 5612 is stamped on the movement plate and when I looked that up I found pictures of the exact movement on the Ranfft Watches site. So I guess I have two questions. First did Seiko use this movement on their watches and somebody perhaps changed case back, or did someone replace the Seiko works with the FE 5612. Second, does anyone know of a location to find a service manual for the FE 5612 movement? It does not seem to want to go back together nicely (do they ever?) and I am wondering if I have something misplaced as the only description I could find states: "Strange. Train and Hand Gear separately driven by barrel (cf. MSR T43)." I also need a stem and crown and don't have a part number. Thanks for any and all information.
  8. Hello. Dear watchmakers. I have a very old timepiece from Rolex that I am about to work on.. From googling, I found out that this is called "trench watch" that might had been used during WWI or any other war in that era ( 1910~1920) However, I could not figure out the reference no. of the movement. All I know about the movement is that it is 29mm in diameter and has 15 jewels. I am actually looking for a replacement movement for this watch since the mainspring must be replaced due to damage. Plus, I am also looking for the rachet wheel with "Rolex" engraved to replace the existing one. I have found similar movements on the web(the third photo added) but click part was not the same. I wonder if the one with different type of click would have parts that are replaceable. To sum up, my questions are 1) the reference of the movement. 2) how I can get parts or the whole movement for replacement 3) does a movement with different click type would be suitable for replacement. Thanks and I wish you a great day.
  9. Hello Everyone. I need some help with repairing my Emporio Armani ar-1922. I've watched some videos on YouTube but none of them resemble the movement of this particular watch. My first problem is removing the stem/crown. I cannot see anything which looks like it will release the stem and I don't want to poke around inside it any more for fear of creating any damage. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.
  10. So ive been wanting to build my own watch for a while after having worked on my own watches for quite some time. The only apprehension i have is how does one size a dial to fit a case. Lets say i have a miyota 8215 a 41 mm cade that fits that movement would a 31 mm dial fit that case? I guess my question is how does one tell if a dial will fit a case. I understand all cases are different
  11. Good afternoon everyone. I have finally taken apart my wife's grandfathers Timex watch, which has a 24 movement. I have several questions: 1. The stem is really sloppy, what can cause that? 2. What is the best way to clean this movement. I do not have a machine so it will be done manually. 3. Where can I get a crystal? Is there a place to buy them if I measure it? Thank you for all of your help.
  12. Hello dear watchmakers! I am now working on a SU movement, Slava 2427. It is a manual-wind movement with day-date complication I am trying to assemble the watch back together after service but I am stuck on the day disc. The day disc is fitted OK in my view, teeth underneath the disc interacts with the click and the disc advances naturally as other motion works move clockwise. However, the problem is that the days written on the disc are not in the right position and do not fit inside the day window of the dial. What could I have done wrong?? Thank you!
  13. Hello. I am working on this vintage A.Schild movement and a jewel on the wheel bridge. It is a jewel for the 3rd wheel but is cracked so needs replacement. I measured the outer and inner diameter and they are 1.2mm and 0.17mm respectively. Could any one help me find the replacement for this jewel?? I am always grateful for your help.
  14. Hello. I am now working on a vintage "trench watch" movement from 1910s that I mentioned before with a question regarding identification of the movement. (I still haven't got the exact ref. of the movement.) As I was disassembling the movement, my screwdriver slipped and broke one of the parts that function as a spring for the click. I tried looking for replacement but I am not sure what I should look for. Also, one of the jewels on the wheel bridge is broken so I need a jewel as well. Could anyone advice me on how to find the correct part for click spring and the jewel for the wheel bridge?? **Could the click spring be put back together?? Thanks. You are always of great help.
  15. Hello. I am working on a vintage piece but I could not find the name(ref no.) of the movement. Could anyone tell me the name of this movement?? All I know is that it has "AS" written on the mainplate. Thanks!
  16. Hello, Would anybody have any idea which make/caliber watch movement this is based on the photos provided. I can only find the L in the fan-like shape symbol on the bottom plate. Nothing underneath the balance as expected. I'm guessing it is from the 1920's era. Thanks, Adam
  17. hi, I am in need of the eb8800 movement in full working condition, thanks
  18. Hello.I have been working on a vintage movement. It is German movement, PUW 1561. It is automatic and has date with quickset function by pulling and pushing back the crown. Before I disassembled it, the quickset did not work instead the date changed as hands passed 00:00. However, as I am trying to put the watch back, the date won't change either by quickset or just manually. The date disk won't move no matter how long I move the hands. I think I have assembled the date function part wrong but I have no idea how the parts should fit it. I read a post about servicing this same movement but it did not work for me. (http://watchguy.co.uk/service-arowe-puw-1561/) Could anyone help me how to put the date parts back in?? I attached a photo of the movement I am working on.
  19. Hello, I have recently bought and serviced this lovely 100 year old 'Spikins from Dent' pocket watch. The movement seems higher quality than some watches of this era that I've serviced, having 15 jewels, and being warranted English. It is housed in a solid silver Dennison Watch Case Co. case and has a 1918 Birmingham hallmark. Given the above info and the attached photos, would anybody be able to identify and tell me whether this is any particular brand of movement? I notice an S in a five-pointed star on the train bridge - is this a trade mark on a movement?
  20. Hello fellow watch repairers. I recently serviced a vintage watch which was in quite nice running condition(rate:+10, amp:270, b/e: 0.3). After cleaned and assembled, the movement ran with a bit lower amplitude than before(amp: 240~250) but it did not stop for hours. I thought that amplitude will get back to normal level after a day or so and I reinstalled hands to put the movement back in to the case. However, only after few minutes, the watch stopped. I felt that something went wrong when putting hands back in so I removed the hour and minute hands. I was about to move on to the second hand and I noticed that second hand was ticking again. This is my first time dealing with this kind of situation. Please I need your help.
  21. Hello. I am about to work on a movement which was cased in watch from 'Garrard'. The watch was cased in Dennison case made in England. I want to know the name of this movement but I have no clue. Please I need your help!
  22. Hello, I got this vintage movement from Constructa LTD which is know as a movement manufacturer owned by Mondaine. Cuuld anyone help me find the name for this movement?? On the train bridge, it says '17 jewels, seventeen, unadjusted, constructa watch LTD, 4433 swiss'
  23. Hello, thanks to all of you who helped me out on my last question about Molnija pocket watch. Yesterday, I opened up my new vintage watch, Justex 21 jewels full anker hand wound watch. I took the movement apart and serviced it but I could not figure out what kind of movement it is. All I know is that it has 21 jewels with frequency of 18000A/h .Any ideas would help.
  24. Hi, I have an old Rado Diastar Quartz watch that belonged to my grandpa, but it doesn't work anymore. My dad tried having it repaired once and had a terrible experience with Rado. In the end they flat out said they couldn't repair it and gave it back. The design of the watch seems common to a number of old Rado watches, both automatic and quartz. I can't seem to find a second hand quartz movement but found automatic movements for the same design. Would it be possible to replace the quartz movement with and automatic? I'll add some pictures of my quartz movement and the automatic(ETA2789). Thanks in advance for any advice!
