  1. Most specifically where can I find hairsprings for the 6497/98 and Unitas equivalents. I am embarked on a hairspring class and would like several uncolleted and unstudded springs with which to practice.
  2. Where would one even start with this mess? Trying to put the balance in after cleaning everything, one small slip, and in less than a second: disaster. Comes from not having 100% focus at the end of a day I guess. "No Excuse Sir!"
  3. I need help with removing and then putting back in a hairspring that has a friction fit stud. I know there is a special tool one can use for this purpose. Does anyone have any pictures and know who might have made it? Can anyone "walk me through" how to remove and replace a hairspring without using the tool? Thanks!
  4. I recently bought at auction a 1950 Jaeger LeCoultre manual wind watch which during viewing was working and keeping good time. Having received the watch it was found to be not working . Upon closer examination I discovered the hairspring has broken just short of the outer stud attachment. anyone got any ideas or technique for re-attaching the end of the hair spring to the triangular stud???? It is incredibly small and quite a slippery thing to hold onto which makes it near impossible to remove the holding pin and re-insert the end of the spring.
  5. I recently encountered a balance assembly in which the hairspring appears to be cemented into a grove in the stud. (Actually, I have several watch movements of this type.) There doesn't appear to be any way to unscrew the stud; nor is there any room to pry it off. This is on an inexpensive EB movement. How does one remove the hairspring from the balance cock in these cases? Is a special tool required? Thanks!
