  1. I inherited a pocket watch that belonged to my grandfather. It was made in South Africa by L. Pinn and Company in Cape Town. The watch face has the words "GOOD HOPE LEVER" - is this the make of the movement or a brand name? The inside of the case has some engraving: GOLD FILLED WARRANTED TO WEAR 5 YEARS EVERY PURCHASER OR POSSESSOR OF THIS WATCH AGREES WITH L. PINN & COMPANY SUPPLIERS THEREOF NOT TO RESELL IT OR ADVERTISE ITS RESALE AT LESS THAN £. 3.- 0612 910 Questions: What does "GOLD FILLED" mean? Is it the case that is gold plated and warranted not to wear? Why would L. PINN & CO engrave this? Would they really have had any recourse if someone resold his watch for a lessor amount? Why is it there? The numbers at the bottom would presumably be a serial number? Any information would be welcome! I had the watch restored some years ago - the glass was broken and the watch wasn't working. It's in perfect order today and I wind it up every now and then to keep it moving.
