Good day all. I have on good authority that vintage Hamilton watches with applied numerals/indices used solid gold markers. Is anyone aware of other manufacturers doing the same? I came across a Benrus with applied markers which look like they might be; they certainly aren't plated so far as I can tell. Thanks for any info you may have to share, and have a great day! Hi i I have this watch that was a wedding gift for my great great grandfather. he was German. I think it was around 1884 based on the stamps and some logic… So I saw that the double squirrel stamps and the numbers above the serial are of symbol to gold standard. The crown stamp is exportation to germany(I think) but still no matches that I found to trace the manufacturer. there is also the thinnest engraving that was scratched by hand that is too small so I couldn’t take a photo of it. But I believe it’s just information about service that was done to it. I tried looking for a match on this stamp that says “cb” but couldn’t get anything. also the “cb” logo appears on both the dial “door”, the back “door” , but not on the movement’s “door” (I’m calling it a door because I don’t know the term). please help!!

Hello everyone. Glad to have found you all. Just trying to get by in my little hobby. Found this lovely solid gold cased uno in beautiful condition. I think sometimes uno described them as super flat watches. Lovely little movement sadly no stem or original crown. Just looking it over carefully I can find no movement ref or numbernear the balance. It's not going but I thought I'd order a replacement stem and crown for it. The balance is free and it winds fine but I'm getting no power through the train to keep it going. Can anyone first help me identify the manual movement and where I might find these parts. Thanks so much. I feel it would be a start in the right direction. Much appreciated. I reckon the watch is 1960s. There is a date letter with the gold hallmarks which can be found on the inside of the caseback. This is a one piece case. You need to remove the movement to view it and there is no quick way to remove the caseback.

Hello from Nashville TN!!! I’m new to the watch repair world, but I’m nerdy and loving it! I’m helping a friend out and repairing his old Benrus Square Rigger. Basically the crown was damaged (the internal pipe was bent badly…I tried to straighten it and it broke.) Anyways, I’ve learned a lot about this watch but I need some help it’s a split stem system and I was able to source the correct stem. What I know so far. It’s a split stem, male side screws into the crown. 5mm crown. Tap 9. 2mm tube on the case. I bought a random lot of vintage crowns and was able to make one of them work. It’s the crown on the left side in the pic. The problem is, I need a gold one! I need to find a crown with a recessed “pipe.” The gold one on the right, that has a flush pipe will not work…regardless of how much you trim the stem. It’s has to be recessed like the steel one. I’m just not sure how to search for that!

Good day experts, I am about to restore a gold plated watch, I have done nickel plating before and plan to do my first gold plate soon. There are different versions of plating solution eg 18k and 24k, can anyone advise which is the preferred type for a watch case? I assumed that 24k is softer than 18k so may wear more quickly (??) - but these are just my initial thoughts. Can anyone advise on which k gives the best balance of appearance and durability before I invest in the plating solutions ie 18k, 24k or xxk. My plan is to: Remove the existing watch plating and take the case to base metal (looks like brass) Polish/clean etc, Nickle plate (I assume this is needed?) Clean etc Gold plate PS: I appreciate every set up is different but if there is any other general advice/rules-of-thumb etc on plating, this would be greatly appreciated; voltage, current, duration etc....

My uncle bought this watch in 1991 and left me it in his will. I've been unable to find the same watch anywhere online so I was wondering if anyone could help me find out more about it?
