  1. Hello all! I own a Sekonda Autodate Deluxe 29 jewels, the second hand is ticking along nicely but after a period of none usage, the minute hand doesn't appear to move, I can move the hands as normal when using the crown however when it's ticking along it doesn't! I can't seem to find anyone able to repair this so was after some advice on what to do! Many thanks in advance!
  2. I got this Longines winding watch from my mother-in-law many years ago. She has since passed away, so I can't ask her if it ever worked for her. I'm sure I asked at the time, but that was a long while ago, I don't recall her response. The hands never budged from 12:00 (or whatever time you set it to). I took it to a jeweler twice, and paid $60+ each time to figure out what was wrong, but neither of them could fix it. I'm thinking that this one might be outside my scope (obviously...I'm a total novice at this and they were both professionals), but thought I'd go ahead & check with y'all and see what ideas you had that I might look for. Perhaps they were trying to keep their time down to spare me their cost. There is zero rush on this, I will probably keep picking it up and thinking about how to tackle it as I gain more experience repairing other watches. It's fun!!!
  3. Hi, so I recently got a seiko 5 snk809 and it was working fine, I then decided to regulate it as it was losing about 1 minute a day. After I regulated it it was working fine then stopped so I shook it to wind it up and then it started working. After 5 minutes it stopped again so I wound it up and it would work but then stop after a couple of minutes. I checked to see if the watch was being winded and it was, so the watch had power but just wouldn't move, I dont know why this is, the watch has power but will only run for a minute or two when I shake it, this hasn't happened before to this watch, so if anyone could help that would be great. Thanks
  4. Hello All I have started my watch repair learning! I have read a few online guides on how to repair watches. I have also acquired most of the necessary tools for watch repair. I have started out by cleaning two watches. The first watch I attempted to clean was a Bulova 10AK movement watch. This watch did not run before I cleaned it, nor after! Before I even took apart the watch, the balance wheel was wiggly. I could easily rock it from side to side. This is what I think was causing the problem. I cleaned it and put it back together but it still didn't work. Could someone explain why the balance wiggles like it does and how to fix it? This also happened on the second watch I got: a Hamilton 982 movement watch. This watch ran before I took it apart, but after cleaning it, its balance wheel has the same problem! I really do not know what to right now, so any help would be appreciated! A few more questions: - How do professionals make their movements so clean that they sparkle after cleaning them? I used an ultrasonic cleaner for my second watch, but the results were good, but now perfect. - Both watch cases aren't in very good shape. Where could I send watch cases to be restored? - Where should I send a dial to be cleaned? - Should I have professionals repaint the hands or should I do it myself? - What kind of crystals would you recommend for each watch? - What gasket should I get that goes in between the case and crystal on the Bulova? Any help with any of the above questions will be very helpful to my learning experience. Thanks!
