  1. I have one of the cheap Chinese chucks and I actually find it quite good. I still use collets for precision work but for large diameters I find it ok. One thing I do find is that sometimes my lathe struggles a bit to spin the extra mass of the Chuck.

Hi again I have had ago at restoring the dial using spray paint and a ink jet printed numerals etc. I think I will have another go at it now that I have a better idea of what I’m doing but I think it looks ok for a first attempt. Also the completely knackered movement I repaired seems to be going well so overall I’m happy with my efforts for a £20 punt. Let me know what you think. Many thanks for all the help received.
  3. Thanks for your help it’s much appreciated. As the dial was no good as it was I have given it a polish, it’s come up quite well apart from the fact it’s bare brass.
  4. Thanks for your help. Yes your right it is bad and from what I can see it’s also quite rare. Can you answers the following for me please. You said the numbers are fixed and I already noted they are not pinned through the dial. So are they glued? If I could get the numerals off and polish the dial to a good state could I resilver (do you think that’s what it was originally) or would paint be better. well spotted on the hour wheel I already have a spare. many thanks for your help.
  5. Hi all. I recently purchased a Leonidas Bidynator automatic watch to restore. I have repaired and serviced the movement and polished the case but I am not sure what to do with the dial. It was in very poor condition but a light clean in water revealed small amounts of what looks like silver but the rest has worn off leaving just base brass. my question is, is this silver the same as a clock dial and could be resilvered using resilvering powder or would I be better off painting it. I have attached a picture of what I believe to be the same watch in good condition. as usual many thanks in advance.
  6. Hi all. I recently purchased a box of landeron 48 spares for another project I was working on. The box came with a Dogma dial and I think It may be correct for the Landeron 48 movement. I have done a little digging about Dogma but I have not really come up with much about this particular watch. So does anyone have any info regarding this watch and if I was to build it up into a working watch can anyone give me any guidance on a suitable case. Many thanks.
  7. Hi all i am just finishing a small restoration of a vintage series 1 Tag Heuer Formula 1. I have had to polish the case due to lots of scratches and dents by previous owner and have finished off with scotch bright to give a satin finish. However when compared to the original finish it looks too bright and the original appears Matt. Can anyone tell me how this finish is achieved, before I purchase a barrelling machine and end up with the same results. Many thanks.

  12. Hi all. I have a Tag Formula 1 dial that is very dirty. I have tried a cotton wool bud and some water on its edge but it took the paint straight off. Does anyone have any advice or am I better of leaving it alone. Many thanks in advance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Many thanks that’s what I thought would be the method. I work for a very large Japanese cutting tool manufacturer and we produce tools down to 0.1mm. Because of this I also have customers who have equipment to work this small so the size of the repair isn’t an issue. I may even manufacture a new part complete if I can’t simply purchase a new one.   14. Thanks everyone for the great input. I have now been able to disassemble the Chrono module, remove the broken item and after about twenty attempts learning a little more every time, put the module back together and it works!! So if I can’t get a new part the next question is, is there a standard repair procedure for repairing a broken shaft/spindle in a part like this (please see picture). I am a experienced engineer and have access to all types of machine tools thanks to my job. But before I start trying to reinvent the wheel I wondered if there is a proven method.   15. Many thanks for the info. I’m a bit confused as to the manufacturer as I have been told the chronograph module is actually made by eta not Depraz.   18. Hi all. I have a broken subsidiary dial pivot (hope that’s the correct terminology) on a eta 2894-2. I realise the chronograph module is supposed to be non serviceable but my research shows that there is a Swatch group company that does sell spares for this module.   21. Hi all. Engineer of 30 years recently taken to watch repair due to a broken ETA 2894-2. The cost of repair was more than the value of the watch so with nothing to lose I did loads of research and had a go. I have had good results replacing the balance wheel and third wheel and the watch now runs well. The only thing left to repair is a broken seconds hand on the subsidiary dial (hope that's the correct terminology) so will be looking for help with rebuilding the Chronograph Module. I understand you are not advised to take this module apart but as I said its scrap anyway so why not have ago. Thanks.
