  1. I think I’m about done. In the end, I removed two regular balance screws and added two much smaller screws that I found in my “Junque”. Mean time screws remain on the balance. Dial down is 0 s/d and dial up is +7 s/d. The amplitude is impressive for an old pocket watch. Side positions are similar, with amplitude staying above 260. I would like to get the beat error down to <0.5 but think I’ll leave it it for now. Thank you all, again!

  2. I'm in Australia, so parts/movements are fairly difficult to come by or just too pricey in general. I found this company in The Netherlands called speedtimerkollektion that sell job lots of parts, movements, cases etc for all kinds of watches. I managed to get 4x defective 7009a's plus shipping for $38 AUS. That's about the same price as one of the cheapest Mumbai specials on eBay. Time will tell if it was a worthwhile purchase or not, but I figure at least I'll have enough spares to get one working movement out of the lot.

  3. My money would be on a snap on back dressed up to look like a screw on back for marketing purposes. The facets on the back have a distinct slope to them which would make it difficult to use a wrench without it slipping. Also the gap you have indicated with an arrow looks like a pry point. If it is a screw on back, and you can turn it without either tightening or loosening it then the threads must be stripped.

  5. get two screw drivers (flat blade ) I use two car mechanic ones, place them either side of the arbor and twist them, dont try to pry them upwards youll only bend the arbor.

  6. I have a had a member write to myself regarding the use of a Rolex Microstella tool supplied by Cousins not fitting the Microstella nuts on a 3135 movement. He found a post I put up in 2019 where I had the same issue. I purchased a vintage Microstella tool which fits great see below. Maybe the Microstella nuts are not all of the same size.

  7. put the balance wheel in the watch without the hairspring. Rotate the balance wheel until the watches in beat. then from the center of the balance jewel assembly visualize a line going through the stud holder continuing until the rim of the balance wheel and put a Mark there. a felt pen works really well as it's not permanent.

  9. I think you are on to something there. I wondered how the flats would work angled like they were. I'll try a case knife.

  10. Thanks, everyone. Your feelings echo mine, and I really didn't want to take the cap jewel out, but there was so much gunk packed in from the other side there was no cleaning it out. Either way, here I am. What would you do if you were me? How were they installed in the first place? @Neverenoughwatches, here's a photo from that thread I linked. This is exactly what I'm looking at. Just got the replacement great wheel in. I wanted to get this Jurgensen off my bench before diving back into it. Here's a picture of mine in its current state. I tried sneaking an oiler under the ring to lift the edge, then pushing down on the prongs, but it's not enough.

  11. The case back spanner design does suggest a screw down . But thats not always the case ( scuse the pun ). Will it tighten back up with a little pressure, without pressure the gasket maybe holding it off the end of the screw thread.

  12. Thank you I will check on the motor for information about light bulb. I did not see anything on the bottom of the machine. I will have an electrician go over it to make sure of the condition, see if it is safe and or needs any repairs

  13. It might be a good idea to open up the case back and have a look at the condition inside first. If the old battery has leaked until it's a mess inside, then you will have to make the difficult decision of whether it's worth repairing. Good luck.

  14. Name on dial is Lewis from Llanidloes, researched from my Brittens old clocks and watches and it comes up with him from around the 1700,s Wow I’ve really missed something with this clock………. it’s running backwards!!!!!! weight is set up as per the Huygens way, escapement running normally but minute hand going in reverse Silly me, I threaded the chain incorrectly, I’m driving the great wheel clockwise not anti-clockwise

  15. 30 hour Longcase clocks always need a lot of work when it comes to wear, most likely the pivots are worn and the pinion's. Something not right in those two photos both pivots are not long enough for the plate, you might have a made up movement in other words parts that didn't start out together. What is the name on the dial and place.

  16. Got this clock for free and found that the coil was open as the connecting wire had broken from the enameled wire. It is riveted together so I had to cut one of them to get it apart. Had to soak the coil assembly in water and IPA so that the paper would come off. Then I found the end of the coil that had broken. Unwound a few turns so that I had plenty to work with. Then I made a bobbin for the coil so that it set firmly in the case. 3D printed. Now to assemble, I had to drill out the rivet and tap some 440 threads. It is all assembled and working. However, I need to make a connector piece to mount some metal tabs so that there is no stress on the enameled wire. I have some ideas working in my head.

  17. Not the answer you're going to want to hear but not all jewel assemblies are meant to come up apart. I would be very concerned if I had to bend up tabs as getting them back down would be problematic. Also it's of concern when I look at a variety of sources of parts for this movement there is nothing that resembles a balance The jewel assembly. There's all sorts of other replacement things for the watch but nothing for the balance jewel either as a separate component assembled or anything set must be part of the balance bridge and I don't even see that in the parts list. It's not a good sign if nobody lists a replacement part
