  1. Thank you Mark and the watch community for allowing my participation. I hope to share learning in both directions. My experience is primarily as a jeweler for the last 25 years, expanding into clock and watch work on the side for the last 8. I can re-bush a clock and am very slow. I can COA a basic pocket watch and have yet to delve into any complications. Located in North Conway NH I'm happy to share access to my tooling and shop with others. I may ask for a coffee or to learn what you know or can teach me. V/R Tim Psaledakis

  6. Something different I put together, bead blasted HMT case, hour and minute hands from Cousins and dial from eBay. Second hand I painted red and re lumed the arrow. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a mechanical movement with the correct stem height so used a Ronda quartz movement. A logo would be nice but for love or money I can’t source one

  7. Possibly because I'm happy to share access to my tooling and shop with others. I may ask for a coffee or to learn what you know or can teach me. Not a common attitude. Welcome here Tim!

  8. Hi Tim, Welcome to the forum. That thumps up you got from Nickelsilver is worth a million dollars, so far as I know, you are the first newbie to receive the honour. Regards, Joe

  9. Cases or lack of is a problem. What has happened with many vintage pocket watches is the cases were worth more than the movements so the cases have been sold on for their metal value and the movements then sold separately.

  10. Probably not with that gasket But if sealed to original factory spec then yes, it should be good for a static pressure equivalent to a depth of 666ft of water. However, even with new replacement gaskets (back and crown) and a new crystal, you may struggle get it to achieve original spec. It's a 54 year old and over time it's possible that the surface condition of the sealing surfaces of the back and case, the crystal seat, and the crown could have deteriorated, even if only very slightly, making the original spec difficult to realize. It all depends on how those surfaces have fared over the last half century. You can really only make that judgement after a pressure test. On the other hand, as a desk diver it's brilliant

  15. The case can break/ crack around the bezel, take extreme care as you, Pry the bezel in three or for positions, before you crack open. Crystal can easily be lifted with regulars crystal lift, I can do it with a knife The stem is a two pieceR.

  18. This is one of the most often asked questions in this forum. Note that normally a rotating bezel does not need to be removed in order to pop out the crystal.

  19. One other caveat...beware of the JESUS spring..small little springs in the works that fly off to only God knows where..when working on or around them I like to put the watch inside a gallon sized plastic bag..I work on top of a sheet of copier paper.. the springs get contained and you can spot them easily against the white paper.

  20. So, today im putting some mileage on my newly acquired 1963, West German manufactured, Timex backset electric. I purchased it as a parts donor for another watch, but it was working when I opened the package from the mail and, well it looks great for a nearly 60 year old watch. So, here it is. Jerseymo says the chrome case models are getting rare. Happy to revive some history.

  21. I'll bet you if you take a small screwdriver tip and make a small V in it, it would prevent and possibility in slipping. This will now work for pocket watches of course. Thoughts? Or do the same with a long thin piece of brass so less steel on steel contact. Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk
