  1. I picked this vintage Timex Marlin up from a pawn shop for $10. It began ticking as soon as I wound it up which is always a good sign. The metallic brown dial and hidden lug case caught my eye, but the Crystal was quite rough, thankfully it wasn't cracked. Sadly it's wearing one of those atrocious expansion bracelets, so that will be ditched ASAP! This was my first time decoding the dial numbers, very useful information there. After a thorough sanding and polish the Crystal looks great! According to the catalog page, it looks like it originally came with a mesh band, I'll have to look for one.

  2. Hey guys, I have been working on a project to make my own watch dials over the past few months. I thought I would share my progress with you thus far. It has been an awfully expensive endeavour, and I have yet to reach a final dial but the work is well underway. I have purchased a pad printing machine, speciality inks and pads as well as a custom engraved cliche of my design. Now I’m putting it all together, I have been practing printing on plastic watch crystals, until I have my silver dials complete to print on. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers

  4. You can find the GR catalogue here https://www.cousinsuk.com/document/category/mainsprings-by-size-watch-pocket or use Cousins search tools, or this list https://watchguy.co.uk/cgi-bin/mainsprings Jules Borel stocks them in the US. There used to be a material suppliers section on this site but it seems to have been removed

  5. Thanks Stefan. I must say this is a super bit of software, much more versatile than any timing machine I've seen. I made a lashup microphone stand to get me going, with the intention of making a "proper" one after a few weeks. That was over 2 years ago and I still haven't made the "proper" one. Also the only quad op amp in my bits box was an LM349, which is quite hissy but the software manages to filter out the signal from all the noise just fine. Very useful, I wouldn't be without it.

  6. Just found the above springs as Nickelsilver says. According to the catalogues, the GR 3254 which is 1.3 x 0.1 x 300 is the correct spring fo this watch. You may find that the NOS one you bought has set and therefore a brand new one may be better. Did you clean and re-oil the new spring or use as is? May be that the oil on it has degraded?

  7. Generale Ressorts has a 1.30 x 0.105 x 280 ref. 3267 and a 1.30 x 0.105 x 300 ref. 3268. The latter is the correct length but you would be fine with the 280. What did you try to increase your amplitude before increasing spring strength? That should be the last resort after all else has failed. I also agree that 250 for that watch is OK if it's timing well.

  8. If I had a lot of money (and therefore time and comfort in life) I would just buy any tool and equipment out there needed to repair and restore every possible component on a watch. Am I alone here ?

  9. All mechanical watch movements should have train and the balance oiled. Never oil the pallet pivots. Are you sure you haven’t over oiled. Make sure you are using the correct oil for the parts. Oil the pallet stone faces, if you have done that there is no need to oil the escape wheel teeth, one or the other you do not need to oil both. The balance will need different oil from the train. Have you measured the spring against the recommended one? If a spring is to powerful that can cause knocking.

  10. Personally I very rarely look at lubrication charts or even movement drawings. Lubrication is a personal preference item. I use mainly the moebius HP series of oils with 9010 for the cap jewels. I have had no issues using his method.

  11. https://www.thewatchsite.com/14-user-manual-technical-manual-casing-guide- Some links to manuals which will have lubrication instructions, and video which is split in many parts shows where to oil but in a different language, you should peruse them. downloads/171138-1971-citizen-technical-information.html https://www.nodevice.com/service-manuals/watch/citizen/8110-1#lang-en
