  1. Sorry if someone read this in the Perregaux thread, but it seems that somebody must have an idea about it. If not, it's the last I'll ask regarding same. As the title states, the watch, an automatic GP 47BF/ETA 1256 stops after running for 7 hours. The fact that the seconds hand is always at 13 seconds must mean something to someone, no? It certainly isn't a coincidence. Twilight Zone or something else? Anybody have any ideas as to what it should be? Thanks ahead of time.

  2. Yes there is a distinct difference and you can see it by the arrow by the setting lever too, had a look at two more Genevas with 1030 and both are identical to my first picture. Your just seems to be worn down.

  3. I have tried to replicate the error you describe but failed, the only thing what seems making sense is your first diagnose with the cannon pinion. Try to broach it slightly and oil it and see what happens. Here is s shot of one of my candidates at trial run.. You can compare the positions of the keyless work.

  4. Engravers (Elephant Black) wax is gives a more robust finish, but when used in shallow engravings it's more dark blue than black. I prefer Merkal, letting it dry for a few days before buffing off the excess. I've also hand painted engravings with a thinned black enamel, then used very fine grade lapping paper to remove excess.

  5. The problem with the black ring is it deteriorates over the years and usually crumbles away. I is only there as a feature piece. However, when the bezel is removed one can see the channel in the bezel that the black ring sits in. The rings are obsolete but easy to make. I took the measurements of the channel and scribed the inner/outer onto (off eBay etc.) a piece of model makers' black polypropylene sheet and cut it out by hand. It can be a snug fit in the channel and may need to be reduced in thickness. Actually there should be a very thin clear plastic shim that sits between the base of the bezel and case, this is only to reduce any friction and take up any slack between the two. Good luck, it's worth doing and they do look great when finished.

  6. They are called castle clocks. This is so because of the design of the case. The movement is German, I expect it is a 30 hour movement with alarm. There are also 8 day movements. The balance is typical of a 30 hour alarm.

  9. It probably loses enough power from the mainspring as hours go by to allow the drag to stop the hand. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

  10. As normal with fashion watches, it's difficult that you will find original parts. So you will have to do with whatever you can find, like holder ring adapted from an assortment, hands of suitable size, etc. The bezel could be turned to size, but good luck finding someone that will do for a reasonable cost.

  11. Typically with watches like this there is no tech sheets but I found the attached tech sheet on cousins. It's the only Cartier Tech sheet that they had. Unfortunately no parts list but it does have the electrical tests which is usually harder to find than the parts list. 3982_Cartier 690.pdf

  12. if it is a flat crystal, I use a " lapping plate" with all the above paper and compound. I have had good results with glass and modern crystals. vin

  13. Oh. I solved it. Two minutes after posting. The indicated plate has lost its spring. It's not pushing down enough on the date set yolk. A little bending with stout tweezers seems to have done the trick. The process of posting here and documenting things makes you think very clearly about the problem. Just looking at my own photos gave me the idea!

  14. Hi Nucejoe. I now have the hair spring and don’t need any further components. She ticks away beautifully - to my wife’s annoyance, she isn’t keen on loud Pin pallet watches [emoji6]. I’ll report back on the movement, but believe it’s a newmark mk2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Acetone will dissolve the shellac on the pallet fork and roller bearing. Keep these parts away from it. Anilv

  16. For the re-blacking some people use engravers wax, sometimes referred to as Elephant Black. Personally, I prefer to use a heat and waterproof solid paint stick such as Markal B or H. Clean all the old blacking away first then rub the stick over the legend. It'll be messy, but let it dry a few hours before wiping away the excess.
