  1. It looks like a pretty generic spring.Do you have another movement of any other manufacture laying about? there's a pretty good chance it's spring will work. Which side of the Atlantic are you on? I will search my kitchen floor.

  2. If you have a multimeter you can find the resistance of the coil, then divide the wall voltage by that to get your amp draw. Amps = volt/ohms If they had listed the wattage, you could use amps= watts/volts. By the same formula if we imagine it draws 2 amps, you'd be at almost 500 watts which I'm pretty sure it doesn't use. I think you are safe with your 3 amp switch.

  4. If they do arrive with a little oxidation, this may be one of those extremely rare times when WD40 is appropriate for watch parts. Squirt some in the bag with the "tropicalised" hairsprings and leave it overnight to do its thing. Clean off the excess and polish the springs with a little 000 wire wool and they may then pass muster.

  5. They do, but they are made in India and are of average quality. I ordered some and ended up ditching nearly half as they arrived rusty. https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/shepherds-hook-springs-wristwatch

  6. Haha, I’m in the UK so if you’re in the USA it’s probably just about to touch down on your kitchen floor.. Good idea on modifying an existing spring, I’ve got an old 6497 that should do the job. i would’ve thought Cousins would sell these in a mixed bag but can’t find them..

  7. I took a quick look at the service sheet for this movement and it seems like it rolls over the date with the gear number 23 in the schematics. So probably a slow change of date. The quick date setting is gear number 27. Otherwise it should function as a normal ETA Quartz movement with the settings.

  8. Well, there are a whole range of designs in the field of date changing mechanisms. Some movements use spring loaded date clicks to get a nice and crisp date change while other just use a gear and rely on friction to hold the date ring on place while date is changing, this style is found on ETA quarts and some clones too. Many of the latter once starts sliding the date over sligtly before midnight and can be finished at midnight or a littl bit after. But all movements should have a position where you could set the time without the date moving, except when it is supposed to do that. If you turn the time for 24hours ahead the date will also change a day. If both date and time moves at the same time it is an erratic behaviour. Depending on the quality of the movement i guess ETA might have less quality control of the production and might let one or two erratic movements through but I hardly Think a whole batch would slipp through to the market. Since you didn´t say which movement it is you had it makes it impossible to answer all of your questions but hope you got some answers.

  9. Check if the barrel wall is cracked. Damaged tooth on barrel.. while the watch may work, there will be a shock to the train when the barrel reaches the broken tooth and releases. Not good for the train. Your best bet would be to look for a new barrel with lid. Good luck! Anilv

  10. My present Plan A is to remove the platform, swill it about in alcohol, re-lubricate, and stand by for perfect operation. NO NO NO. The platform needs to be completely taken apart polished and rinsed, then cleaned in a proper cleaning machine. The only part that is not to go in the cleaning machine is the hairspring. A good clock repairer should be able to do this for you. If you damage or break any part it could cost a small fortune to put right.

  12. I've heard good things about this Arbe lamp and I was set to buy one, but I got laid off on New Year's eve. So I used some scrap plywood to make an arm for a light I built a while back. It has 6 strips of 36 SMD 5630 leds each. The arm is a bit ugly, but I'll try and pretty it up a bit. I got a chance to use it for the first time today. For the money, it meets my needs nicely.

  13. Hi *, Now I understand how can the mainspring damage the movement. First hand experience because I made a mistake at the end of the cleaning and oiling process. 3 o'clock in the morning. I felt the teethes bouncing of my chest. Needless to say I was and I am still very sad. Best regards, Lui
