  1. I think your post misses a few salient points, people who have worked their way to this site may well have done so out of economy and wish to learn to service the watches that they have acquired over the years, and by learning to do so have more money to spend on their hobby. There is no doubt that a quartz watch is more accurate than a mechanical watch but do you really need to time your life to the second ? do you need to time it to the exact minute ? you only need a reasonable amount of accuracy in life and certainly in most cases not to the second, the mechanical watch is in no way totally obsolete, it will always exist as long as people use sites like this and enjoy taking them apart, repairing and learning about them. What I do think will happen is that there will be a resurgence in mechanical watches and it wont be led by the high priced major players in Switzerland.

  2. Hi, can anyone tell me how to release the winding stem and button on this watch please. Omega Electronic f300Hz DEVILLE CHRONOMETER I have tried loosening the ss screw just above the rh coil but this has no effect. Also it looks the same as several others so I don't think that is the one. Other watches seem to have a sort of dimple to press but there is nothing like that on this movement. Am I missing something obvious? Also is there any way without stripping the movement that I can remove the light staining on it. Just to make it look better.

  3. I had an idea this morning that although the Breitling was changing date by two days at a time it is after all gust a gearbox in essence with a mechanical train and levers so what if it was just out of sink? I have had issues with clocks in the past that were out of sync and moving the hands backwards often solved the issue. I thought what have I got to loose before stripping it down. I wound the hands backwards for a total of two days worth of time and as expected the date did not move as it only goes forwards not backwards when moving the hands. I then changed the date with the quick date change (1st click on the crown) and voila the date now changes one day at a time like it is supposed to. I set the date for one day behind the current date and advanced the hands to alter the time using the crown (position 2 on the crown when pulling it out) and the date jumped forwards one day when it reached nearly 12pm. Fantastic. Thought I would let you guys know in case you run into this issue in the future. Many thanks for the people who read my post. Andy

  6. Welcome! That times is gorgeous. May I ask do you just paint the dials or do anything to them? I'm interested in making dials and am unsure how to begin. I want to take blank dials and make my own custom design. Not looking for quantity just make a few for myself or a present. Glad to meet you I'm from upstate New York, did you get hammered with snow too, with more in the way?

  8. Hello and welcome to the forum! Great to have you here and you'll soon discover there are lots of knowledgeable members. You have a nice collection and I'd like to know more about your method of printing dials. I tried it a few times with an Omega Seamaster dial, but wasn't satisfied with the quality of the pixelated print. J
