  1. Make sure the watch is not running. Then align the hour hand to 12. Then stick the minute hand with rodico half way down the hand place it in position. With your other hand press it down all the while slightly adjusting it holding the ridico. This will work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  2. Ditto on not using the holes. There is potential to distort the lid and the fit of the lid will suffer. Anilv

  3. I rarely use the holes. On a hard surface I press down just above the gear teeth using my thumbnails. The top usually just pops off.

  4. I am a sucker for coin silver interestingly engraved 18s pocket watches (wow that was a mouthful) This is a Waltham 18s Ellery 11jewel hunter made in 1885in a coin silver case. It was a bit sad when I bought it . I striped it down cleaned it, replaced the mainspring , replaced the crystal, installed a new balance jewel and cleaned what turned out to be a really great looking case that was black. As I said I love an interesting engraved case, and this Huge Bull is great. Tell me what you think & show your interesting cases

  5. Hello, Here is a Sicura with windows for hour, minute and date. The little propeller keeps track of the seconds. I overhauled two of these so far....It is powered by BFG 866 with 17 jewels---not one on the pallet lever itself! Apparently they ran out of jewels at that point or something so they used little pins. Keeps decent time though, and reminds me of old-style parking meters we had all over NYC about 10 years ago. Check the Watch Repair Help & Advice forum to see the movement tear-down and rebuild of the bfg866. JC

  6. Hello my fellow horologica aficionados...I've had a long day as usual, but couldn't wait to get the hour/minute/seconds dials on the baumgartner 866 and finish putting it together. The result is better than I could have hoped. This is my very first movement I've ever torn down, cleaned and re-assembled! Everything came out great! The watch is working and keeping good time (so far) the hour minutes and seconds are all turing over as they should. It took 3 times putting in the dials in and then removing and adjusting them until I got the hour wheel to turn right on the mark (i.e. XX:00). I am going to start another movement right away! I have posted pictures and I again want to thank Mark for his excellent video and running commentary and insights as he did the work--I wouldn't have been able to do it without that specific video as my template guide.. I've watched the AS1900 overhaul about 10 times! Oh yeah, the case is being replated so stay tuned for a "what's on your wrist" post. P.S. I wanted to post a little video of the movement working but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Regards, JC

  7. Took me Two Years to figure how to hold the hand steady while pushing it into position. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  8. Welcome to this friendly forum. You are very lucky to have someone to ask and learn from. I am a great believer of the hands on approach. You can only learn so much from books. As they, say there is nothing like getting your hands dirty.

  9. Are you talking about the seconds hand on quartz watches ? For me it's just a bit of trial and error. It might take a few tries but eventually I get it to align (mostly).

  10. There are openers which fit the flats on the back.. It unscrews off. Google "mido caseback opener". If you have a small adjustable wrench that can work but you may need to file the ends flat. Anilv

  11. Had a pretty similar issue with such a movement and the hairspring was a bit faulty.

  12. Problem is not rate but that the balance/escapement is basically not working. It's quite common on the 7S26 which needs every single part to be 100% perfect to produce good amplitude and thus reliable timekeeping. So you have to check again the parts and functions involved, as well end-shake. Be aware that in some cases the issue cannot be fixed without replacing balance complete and possibly more parts, up to the complete mov.t if the objective is to have a working watch.
