  1. Quick update... High power magnifier and a sewing needle soon made me realize that the ”hooks” on these springs are much longer than what I´m used to from the regular inca-springs. In my previous attemps I had actually never released the spring, just shifted it slightly. I attached a photo for anyone interested .... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  2. Not that it's worth, is a necessary step to confirm that something is wrong (or not) there.

  3. So no magic button hidden somewhere that will pop them open :-) Guess I will have to get my most super magnifier glass on and get real to close to see what’s going on.... Thanks for the kind spares offer if things go south, always appreciated. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  4. This is not it an acme thread. There is no reason to think it was and lots to think it wasn't, but proof positive is that the metric nut fit perfectly. Why do you need to cut it and want to compress it? imo this is fruitless exercise; describe what are you trying to achieve and if I can I'll be glad to describe how to get there....but imo its not going to be through the plastic deformation of a nut.

  5. Hi James and welcome, Why do you need a new balance assy ? Is the balance running all over the place or something? If not then give the watch a clean and service de-mag etc. Attention to the escape wheel , balance and pallets. You may well find that cures the problem. Will cost nothing for a start !!. Good wishes, Mike.

  6. As far as I can tell from these links 8800 is a base calibre of 12lignes and the 8123 is 11.5lignes and none of the parts seem to be interchangeable. Can’t find a specific parts list but In theory you could work through all the interchange lists to get a complete list of part numbers and then use a standard swiss part numbers guide (e.g. in the bestfit catalogue http://www.obsoletewatchandclockparts.com/bestfitpages.htm) to work out what they all are.

  7. Silver solder would be stronger, but lead solder will do a fine job. First, find a piece of brass suitable for the job. You need to file a slot into the barrel and solder it in. You can use a spirit lamp and some flux. You will need to clean the piece of brass to use, use a emery stick to clean it off. With various needle files, file the brass into the shape of the tooth making sure you have the correct height, thickness and shape. You will need burr files or some people call them rotary files to remove the inside waste so the spring can sit proper. Test it before you put the movement back together, you might have to make slight adjustments. If you have never done this type of work before you might like to practice on a clock wheel, which is bigger to get the idea on what to do, if you make a mistake it does not matter.
