  2. So I think we need some funny stories about loosing watch parts. My wife found me on my hands and knees the other day looking for a small gear that is part of a south bend pocket watch keyless system. I had it on the mat, forgot I put it there and it stuck to my forearm and moved itself to the plastic chair mat on the floor. I looked like an ant eater with my loop and a flashlight doing a Search and Rescue pattern on the floor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. It might need a clean. There might be a loose or cracked jewel. A jewel or related problem can manifest itself by the movement only running normally in certain positions. I've certainly encountered this in a couple of my own watches over the years. Cheers, Will

  4. I have always worn a apron but just lately I have been attaching it,s lower section to the underside of the bench with a couple go dog clips. Any fliers now just sit in the apron for retrieval.

  6. First, to remove the cap jewel - I use one of these "picker uppers" - they really work very well and you can't beat the price! http://amzn.com/B00K7KEN6K I typically drop the jewel into a small container of hairspring cleaner (one-dip) and that usually cleans them pretty well. For really dirty cases I will press the jewel very slightly into some rodico and rub with pegwood. You definitely need to be on your game. I usually do this under a stereo microscope where I can be very precise with my movements.

  7. Kids and watch parts don't mix well. Big locks on doors are needed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Oh myyyy.. Are we really looking like cyborgs while tinkering? I have lost many parts, all were turned up after a few hours of searching or accidentally after a few days. Except one minute hand wich was drying after relume in a box on the old TV among other relumed parts. My wife was calling me up on the workplace that the kids striked the box down with a ball. I have a small flashlight with me all the time it is excellent for searching for flewn parts. It has an XM-L (there are much more efficient ones nowadays) led with 18650 Li battery.

  9. If that so you will need to take the movement out of the case. A good way of cleaning inside threads is use peg wood you will get a thread on the wood but just shave it off with a pocket knife and repeat until clean. All the above advice about the button and stem also should be undertaken that way you will have a good fit as if it were new.

  11. i lost and then found a wheel from a bulova quartz tonight. i saw it ping off. so, i hooked up the vacuum cleaner with a sock on the end of the extension. i did the floor under my chair three times - nothing. after i put away the vac, i looked on the movement and there was the wheel. it hardly moved. i just assumed when it pinged that it went into outer space.

  12. you really struck on a great idea here. and it's well executed. tell me: how is the wheel held to the center? i missed that part. is it held by the bit? how can you tell if the drill runs true without any runout? you did an excellent job on this!

  17. " I called Breitling SA to ask what a service would cost. They informed me that they would not work on the watch as it had been opened by me. " Ridiculous, non sensical business practice. Yes it is concerning if someone unqualified opens a Breitling or similar watch, and it should void any warranties, but it should not disqualify it from ever being repaired. What on earth is that all about? If they think you might have done something damaging to it, they should offer to fix it as part of a service, not give you the cold shoulder.
