Open Elgin ?

Recommended Posts

Just acquired an Elgin fob watch and straight-away run into a problem trying to open the back to see what's inside. The front dial cover unclips easily but the back refuses to hinge down, seems jammed.

Can't see any slot or means of easing it out when applying some force with the crown release pushed down. Don't want to do damage so hope for some advice before getting out the cold chisel.

Thanks.

Advice indicates that it's just necessary to insert a fine blade and apply pressure but it's a bit firmer held than I imagined. Need the right gear and grip to ensure I don't slip and cause damage.

This should open with a case knife. When the back is open, unscrew the two? case screws, pull the winder out as if you were setting the hands and the movement should drop out, if not a gentle, push with your fingers should do the trick. Make sure the bezel is open.
