Swiss Made Elgin

Recommended Posts

Quick question. Or 2 questions:)

1. The Elgin is the picture has a symbol below the name Elgin. Were these Elgins' made in Switzerland?

2. This watch is highly accurate, adjusted and leaver set, would this be a railroad grade. If not, why bother with the lever set mechanism.

Thanks

Hi,

Am not able to see your photo....

Elgin was a US brand dating back to 1864 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elgin_National_Watch_Company ) but it seems that any Elgin watch produced after 1964 is not really an Elgin (the company went into receivership with the rights to the brand name were sold and resold, eventually ending up with the watches being made in China).

According to another article I read in French, Elgin did have a collaboration with a Swiss movement manufacturer. So it's not impossible that it has a Swiss movement.

Maybe pop it open and take a look at the movement ?
