Chaton Help

I have been working with 2 watches with chatons that hold jewels. I am not sure how to deal with them.

Even so, I have loosened a couple of the 1 screw chaton screws to move over the spring and remove the jewel for cleaning. 

I'm reticent to remove the screws entirely.

Any ideas?

Have you got a picture? What is this on? An old pocket watch?

It's a very small wrist watch movement. I'm going to get the movement back from the customer next week some time; I need to take a photo of it for the people at ETA as well.

Just one screw? Don't they usually have 2? I must have my terms confused...

Yeah, usually 2 or even 3 sometimes. These only have one. I'll post a photo as soon as I can next week.

Here is a photo: It isn't very good but the single screw 'charon' is for holding the escape wheel jewel. Just to the R of the balance cock.

That's a cap jewel fixed into a plate. You can remove the screw and the plate and then you should be able to clean the hole jewel and the cap jewel properly.
