Hello from Texas

Recommended Posts

I joined last summer but before I could post much I was in a car accident and injured my right hand.  Once I recovered enough to be able to both type and work on my watches I had a back log of watches to repair. That along with my day job to keep me busy for a few months.  Now that I am caught up and healed up I can start posting.

I live In Texas near Dallas and repair watches as my second job.  I am a Electronics Engineer, Systems Engineer and Machinist.  Currently I am learning mechanical watch repair or I should say learning more about it.

I do repair quartz watch movements and electronic watches.  I have a few old LCD and LED watches. I also have a collection of Timex and Bulova watches.

Hey, Sleeper!

Welcome back.  Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you're recovering.  I'm in Texas, too.  I am south of Houston in Pearland.  I have some vintage Bulova parts, if you ever get in a bind and need something.  At the moment I'm not really doing any watch work because my apartment is being built and I can't set up my work space until the dust settles.  But it won't be much longer, I think.  Do you also work on Accutrons?  Glad to see a fellow Texan on here.  Happy watchmaking!

I repaired a Accutron a year ago but I don't own one yet.  All of my own Bolova's have Swiss movements. So I still want a older American made movement Bolova.

Accutrons seem to fall victim to "free" battery changes. The one I fixed was a mess of corrosion from a busted gasket.

Here is my beat up and twice rebuilt Bolova.  I need to clean and overhaul the face and repaint the luminous points on it. This watch is my favorite and started my whole watch repair journey.

A "free" battery change had damaged the gasket and filled the watch with water while swimming in 1999. A few years ago I found a book on fixing and building watches and this was my first repair.  It now it has a Ronda movement.

Welcome Sleeper. It,s a pity you had to replace the Bulova movement with a Ronda movement but unfortunately that is how the industry is shaping up with the restrictions and prices of parts. Many will be interested including myself how you repair the quartz / electronic watches.

This is a nice friendly forum with all levels of horology sharing their knowledge and sometimes even their mishaps !!!!!!
Anyway enjoy the forum.,
