  1. Any swiss movement with a jewel count of 15 and above is good. I would stick with the more common makers, ETA, AS, FE. Seiko's are good but you wont learn about hand-winding clutches and reversor wheel on most of their common movements, Avoid....Timex, EB (or any pin-levers), ladies sized movements. A watch with higher jewel count will be easier as the jewels are dished on the inside, but you need to be aware that the cap-jewels should be installed (on the main-plate) before assembly. HTH Anil

  7. I think you got an excellent deal on this. It is still a little large for me to wear as a pendant, but it would be perfect for my 15-year-old grandson.

  8. Well, if I had the extra cash, I wouldn't be opposed to paying $200 if the case was only gold filled. If it was gold, I would pay $500 or more. To me, it is a lovely timepiece. But, I am a woman, so I wouldn't really look at a pocket watch the same way a man would, because I wouldn't carry it in a functional way. If it were small enough to be a pendant that would be different, but it doesn't look that small. If I was a man, I would be proud to own it and I would bid whatever it took (within reason) to win it.

  9. I hope you understand a hesitancy to quote prices for particular watches. No one wants to get into pi$$ing match over what something is worth, I've seen it before on other boards, nor do I think the mods and Mark want this to become a haven for those trying to find out only values, (sort of takes away from the intent). They could flag my post and it won't happen again. That's okay, I would understand. Maybe we can PM members if unsure values are involved? Just a thought.

  10. I did this for S&G, under "sold" items, prices vary greatly. Your dial, hands, case, (original Illinois?) figure into value and of course working condition is a bonus and total production number of movements. If I were a collector of Illinois pwatches and did not have one, obviously I would pay a little more. I know I might get some flak, but max I would spend = $150 USD.

  11. SZBALOGH, Good to see some time spent on the EB.... If no one valued them, in another 20years they'll be as rare as rocking-horse p00 and the next generation of watch collectors will be paying big bucks for them! For sub-seconds.. while interesting and well-worth giving some attention to, its quite easy for a beginner to break the sub-seconds pivot where it sticks out on the dial side...removing the seconds-hand is also a bit risky as I've broken a few due to carelessness. 13. On this watch case photographed, crown radius should preferably not exceed the cut-away on the case behind where the crown sits.

  14. Not sure, I think the number of degrees may depend on the watch. And if I'm visualizing this correctly, it would be over 360deg to whack the other side of the fork. The fork doesn't lock at zero, if you consider the balance jewel at rest zero. At least, I think so

  15. I dont remember much about the rolex...only saw it once 20 years ago. He won the lottery in florida and thats why he had the money to buy it...lol....I just completed another time study with this molnija ...in 4 hours and 30 minutes the difference between it and the digital stop watch was 1.5 seconds....is that pretty decent?
